LFF seeking Assistant Editor

A plug for Left Foot Foward, a website that I publish  blogs on and one of the best around in my opinion – they are looking for an Assistant Editor.

“Left Foot Forward is one of the UK’s leading politics websites, specialising in evidence-based coverage of politics, policy and current affairs. We are looking for an Assistant Editor to help take the site to the next level.

This position is a great opportunity for an a talented and ambitious individual looking to take on responsibility in a high profile position at the cutting edge of political reporting and new media. You will be expected to contribute to the strategic development of LFF while delivering high quality editorial content and engaging with readers through social media on a day-to-day basis. In addition to producing excellent written copy, you will need to commission and edit content from our network of experts in politics, think tanks and academia.

Detailed knowledge of, and a passion for, British politics is essential as is a commitment to progressive values such as social justice, sustainability and internationalism. An interest in new ideas and policies on the centre left is also critical. With an emphasis on evidence-based content, the successful applicant will have strong numerical and analytical skills, the ability to identify relevant details in data and marshal this information into compelling editorial copy. Knowledge of data-driven journalism and/or economics and finance is an advantage.

A track record of operating in a high pressure environment would be an advantage in this fast-paced role. You will be expected to make editorial calls on a minute-by-minute basis in response to social media and breaking news.

Experience of producing text and multimedia content for the web would be beneficial, although we can provide on the job training. There will be opportunities to work with a wider network of progressive organisations to build campaigns for change in the UK. You are also likely to gain media exposure in the job.
